Winter activities around Gästehaus Pernull
In the winter period there is a lot to do around our accommodation. As an avid winter sports enthusiast, you can of course indulge yourself on the snowy slopes, skiing and snowboarding are of course the most famous activities, but how about heli skiing, hiking, winter tobogganing, or ice skating? But there is also plenty to do for the holidaymaker who prefers to take it easy. For example, treat yourself to a wonderful winter wellness treatment in the spa and enjoy the sun-drenched terraces.
Our Gästehaus is close to the Italian border, which means we have a more stable climate here than the more northerly parts of Austria. This means that the sun often shines here (up to 100 hours more) and you can fully enjoy the sun, snow and winter fun.
So there is a lot to do in the area and to make it easier for you, we give a number of tips with extra information below. But this is really not all! So keep an eye on our Facebook page , because there we give many more tips with extra background info!
Nassfeld Ski Area
Nassfeld is the largest ski area in Carinthia with 30 modern cable cars and lifts. The area has about 110 km of slopes in various levels of difficulty, making this ski area very suitable for both beginners and experienced winter sports enthusiasts. You can ski and snowboard here and for snowboarders there is even a snowboard fun park, where you can practice your snowboard skills.
You can relax in one of the many super cozy stubs. Here you can warm up and enjoy typical Austrian delicacies.
Ski areas Weissbriach, Kötschach-Mauthen and Weissensee
These 3 ski areas are smaller than Nassfeld and therefore very suitable for families. Adults and children can find the right offer here.
Cross-country skiing in Austria and Italy
Cross-country skiing is possible here on a more than 300 km long Loipen network. Several trails have been awarded the Kärntner Loipengütesiegel. This network consists of perfectly tracked classic cross-country tracks and skaterbahns. 18 of these trails are located at 1,000 to 1,500 m above sea level, so snow is guaranteed on these tours!
Snowy trails can also be found at:
- Nassfeld (with routes passing through Austria and neighboring Italy).
- Lesachtal (6 km).
- Dellach/Kirchbach (5 km).
- Weissensee (3 km).
The Villacher Alpenarena at the foot of the Dobratsch is very popular with cross-country skiers. The paths are perfectly prepared here and on weekdays you can even go here until 8 pm. Special spotlights provide sufficient light and a fairytale atmosphere.
The trails at Tröpolach (in total about 18 km and 8 km) can also be reached comfortably with the free ski bus, which stops close to our Gästehaus.
Snowshoe hiking
For hiking enthusiasts, there is also a special winter version: snowshoeing!
During a snowshoe walk you get (as the name suggests) special shoes tied with which you can easily step through the snow. You can do these walks under the guidance of a guide, so that you get to see the most beautiful places in the area. You can warm up while enjoying a hot chocolate in one of the cozy mountain huts.
Ice skating on the Pressegger See and Weissensee
You can skate on natural ice here in the area on the Pressegger See and the Weissensee. The Pressegger See has about 55 hectares of excellent natural ice, which consists of a number of different ice rinks, including a prepared 2.5 km round track. At the Hermagor beach you can rent skates and change rooms. You can also take a beautiful walk around the lake (Slow Trail).
The 6.5 km2 Weissensee in Carinthia freezes over every year around November 25. This starts from the small western part and from mid-December the lake is completely covered with a 40 centimeter layer of ice. Here you can enjoy skating rinks from 4 to 25 kilometers long! A real feast for the seasoned skating enthusiast!
Traditionally, an Alternative Eleven Cities Tour is also organized here every January. During 2 weeks, many Dutch people can be found in the area, who all want to make their rounds on this beautiful natural ice.
